Leadership is the art of motivating people to act towards achieving a common goal. It entails persuading and influencing others towards a goal. A leader utilizes interpersonal skills to influence others to accomplish a goal. The purpose of this paper is to discuss my core leadership values, CliftonStrengths assessment results, and behaviors that I wish to strengthen.
My core values in leadership are fairness and credibility. Fairness in leadership entails a leader applying justice to all the employees. I consider fairness as one of the strongest dynamics of an effective organization since it promotes unity among the staff. It fosters harmony, kindness, and a sense of equity among employees (Lips-Wiersma et al., 2020). Credibility refers to the quality of being worthy of belief and trust. When employees perceive that their leader has high credibility, they feel a strong sense of team spirit and view their values as consistent with those of the organization (Lips-Wiersma et al., 2020). I uphold credibility by being transparent with people.
My leadership vision statement is: To create good relations with my employees, mentor, develop, and inspire them to reach their full potential. To always lead with fairness, credibility, honesty, and humility to create an effective and enjoyable working environment.
From the CliftonStrengths assessment, my top five themes are Achiever, Communication, Ideation, Focus, and Strategic. The Achiever theme denotes that I have a lot of stamina and put in a great deal of hard work (Rath, 2007). I am also highly likely to flourish in environments where I can use my talents or endurance to understand how much I can achieve (Rath, 2007). The communication theme implies that I find it easy to put my thoughts into words. It means that I can make situations exciting for others and they look forward to being with me.
Ideation theme means that I am fascinated by ideas and able to recognize connections between seemingly disparate phenomena. Driven by my talents, I like to work on things by myself (Rath, 2007). Focus theme implies that I can take a direction, follow-through, and make the corrections necessary to remain on track (Rath, 2007). Lastly, the strategic theme implies that I create alternative ways to proceed. Driven by my talents, I demonstrate an ease with language, and I effortlessly verbalize my thoughts.
To become a better leader, I would wish to strengthen effective listening and coaching behaviors. Effective communication is essential to building trust with employees and inspiring them to follow your vision (Sonmez Cakir & Adiguzel, 2020). Coaching is crucial to developing a partnership with employees and creating a shared vision for what needs to be done and how goals will be met.
I plan to improve my listening skills by being more curious and open-minded when interacting with my colleagues. I will also allow myself to be fully present when speaking with my colleagues (Sonmez Cakir & Adiguzel, 2020). I plan to improve my coaching skills by giving feedback to my colleagues that enables them to grow and address problems in the future (Sonmez Cakir& Adiguzel, 2020). Besides, I will delegate responsibilities to develop employees. I plan to achieve my vision of creating good relations with employees by getting to know team members as individuals. I will create an effective and enjoyable working environment by involving employees in decision-making to identify issues that affect them.
My core values in leadership are fairness and credibility, which are crucial in creating an effective and harmonious work environment. My top five themes based on the CliftonStrengths assessment, are Achiever, Communication, Ideation, Focus, and Strategic. , I would wish to strengthen my leadership behaviors in effective listening and coaching to become a better leader.
