The occurrence of crisis in many instances may be attributed to the lack of an effective plan and the inability of the risk management department to foretell the risk that is experienced. The risk that occurred was the issue of excessive patients in need of healthcare services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This puts the patients at a high risk of passing on due to the lack of access to healthcare services. The crisis was experienced in all the states with New York being largely affected by the filling up of all the healthcare facilities in the state. Other than the fact that there were not enough beds for the patients being admitted in the healthcare facility, the number of healthcare providers was becoming smaller as compared to the number of patients who needed close attention.
The first stage of the crisis was reported at the begging of 2020 and there were mitigation measures put in place to help in the elimination of the infection. These included the provision that there was a need for healthcare providers to make use of PPEs and to wear face masks (Lupton & Willis, 2021).
