It is important to document accommodations and interventions used because students will say
the teacher did not ask them if they wanted to use their accommodations. Students have to use
accommodations throughout the year in order to use them on end of course/state testing. If
you have documentation on every time you asked the student to use these accommodations
and they said no, but now want to use them for testing the test coordinator can tell them no
since they did not use them in the classroom. Parents will blame the teacher first before ever
admitting their child is wrong. If a parent says that you would not let their child use the
accommodations and you have documentation where every time you asked, and the student
refused there is now blame on the student for not taking advantage of their accommodations.
By having documentation, it’s not your word against the students word. It also covers you, so it
does not become of game of who is right.
