The Impact of Nursing Informatics on Patient Outcomes and Patient Care Efficiencies Patient outcomes represent a central measure for learning about patient care efficiencies, including quality and cost-sensitive care. Nursing informatics is a specialty integrating nursing science with information and technology to help identify and manage data communication and knowledge transfer in nursing practice (Bowles et al., 2015). On the other hand, nurse informaticists are responsible for integrating information and knowledge to support nurses and patients in healthcare environment (Bowles et al., 2015). Thus, quality healthcare delivery, patient-centred care, and patient satisfaction have become priorities for healthcare providers. It is noteworthy that fundamental changes are needed to create a suitable work environment in healthcare and ensure patient-centered care. Moreover, a suitable work environment in healthcare is dictated by work distribution, health information technology, and the orientation of the organization’s culture. Besides, strong leadership in the healthcare environment is required to effect the proposed changes to improve patient care (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2017). This paper's purpose includes proposing a nursing informatics project involving implementing a nurse bedside handoff report. It will also discuss patient outcomes, technologies needed, and the project team members. The Proposed Project Many healthcare organizations do handoff reports away from the bedside. This project proposes the adoption of a nurse bedside handoff report. Nurse bedside handoff report ensures patient involvement, leading to patient satisfaction (Dorvil, 2018). It is worth noting that nurse handoff report needs effective patient information transfer between nurses to avoid patient adverse events and medical errors (Dorvil, 2018). Additionally, this particular project will promotes patient safety by engaging the patient and family. In implementing the project, it is
