Components of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Their Impact
The patient protection and affordable care act of 2014 aim to push employers to insure their employees through an adequately defined health insurance care plan, with exceptions for small-scale businesses or employers. This means that every employer with a 50 and above employee is expected to subscribe to the idea of health insurance packages for their employees. According to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care act (2014), this provision was incorporated to prevent the idea of having a workforce exposed to various occupational safety and health risks at their own expense. In addition, access to healthcare will be improved as the cost of receiving treatment will be hugely reduced.
The prohibiting of health insurance providers from excluding children with pre-existing conditions from insurance plans is another provision in the act; this will help provide access to healthcare for children with various illnesses and conditions exempted from insurance plans by insurance providers. In addition, this consumer protection provision will benefit the healthcare industry as more patients, children with these conditions and illnesses will be treated and diagnosed, thus improving the quality of life for both their families and them as individuals.
The patient protection and affordable care act also incorporated the provision that demonstration programs and projects develop medical malpractice alternatives and reduce medical errors. This provision allows for the increase in evidence-based practice by practitioners and professionals in the industry to help achieve accuracy in disease diagnosis, treatment, and management, hence improving the quality of life and reducing the mortality rate.
Administrative wastes
Organizations include an administrative budget to help plan and manage general office expenses that work to improve the smooth running of an organization’s projects. Unfortunately, healthcare facilities have inflated administrative costs where the stocking of equipment mostly follows those with higher mark-up prices. As a result, the approach, although advised against, has fallen on deaf ears.
Minimal accountability on the side of the administrators within the technical and finance departments in healthcare facilities, agencies, and drug manufacturing firms has been the largest contributor to this form of waste (Wu, 2020). Lack of proper planning and a well-defined procurement process would cut down administrative expenses. Elimination of this form of wasteful spending would cut down the cost of treatment due to lower production and running costs. In addition, funds previously wasted would be used to fund research for pathologies and the development of new drugs and healthcare technologies.
