What is your research experience?

I have limited research experience having only engaged in research activities to fulfil the academic requirements. That research experience has principally focused on improving nursing care outcomes and patients experiences. For instance, identifying how changes in nursing practice affect their practice efficiency and effectiveness, as well as outcomes in terms of how fast patients heal. Although my research experience has focused on improving care outcomes, the research value has often been low since the studies were carried out in a small scale to either rely on secondary data or engaged a small number of participants that reduced the results generalizability (Fitzgerald et al., 2012). Overall, my experience has made me acknowledge that research is necessary to collect tangible data that would then be used to inform nursing practice as part of the concept of evidence-based practice Promoting nurse practitioner practice through research.

Does developing or participating in one of these types of studies appeal to you?

Participating in nursing research to improve patients’ care outcomes appeals to me. That is because my motivation for becoming a nurse was to improve medical care outcomes. As a nurse, I engage with patients at the primary level and anything that would advance my work efficiency while improving care outcomes for patients is more than welcome (Hayes, 2006). In this respect, participating in nursing research activities appeals to me Promoting nurse practitioner practice through research.

What kind of NP practice question would you like research?

I would like to research strategies for improving nurses’ performance as a primary concern with patient outcomes as a secondary concern. Reading through past research activities, I noticed that they focused on patient outcomes with very few of them talking about how to improve the practice environment for nurses. There is a shortage of nursing personnel that is only anticipated to worsen with the unfavorable practice environment being blamed for the turnover and shortage (Buerhaus et al., 2017). I would like to research ways to increase the number of practicing nurses, reduce turnover and improve retention Promoting nurse practitioner practice through research.
