It causes various social and economic problems especially when an individual develops dependence on alcohol. This will aid in cessation of alcohol addiction considering alcoholism is a major risk factor to various health care complications. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, approximately 15.1 million people have Alcohol Use Disorder.

The statistics comprise 9.8 million men and 5.3 million women (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2018).  Approximately 623,000 adolescents especially those between the ages of 12 and 17 years suffer from alcohol abuse disorder (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2018). Young people especially those between 18 and 35 years, are the most affected by alcoholism. Alcoholism leads to medical, social and economic problems in a family and the society.
