PICOT statement: The use of spiritual care in the hospice patients brings out a better quality of
life as compared to patients receiving usual care in the hospice with no spiritual care.

Spirituality is essential in the care of patients in the hospice, and this is taken from the
Christian narrative. The Christian narrative explains that humans should find comfort even in
their time of sickness as God has the power to reinstate health and provide eternal life. Through
this, spirituality and religion aid people who are ill in finding the actual reason behind the illness
and believe in miraculous ways (McTavish, 2018). As a nurse, there is a role of connecting the
sick to their spirituality, as it tends to provide comfort and coping while in sickness (Lucchetti et
al., 2013). Many instances have been seen to provide health through the connection to
spirituality. In the beginning, the Christian narrative explains how man was made in the image
and likeness of God. This brings in a more profound meaning where man life is sacred, and love
and companionship should be offered to ill people (McTavish, 2018). This means that the sick
should be given optimism and cared for in this time as God will restore their health.
