NURS 5051/NURS 6051: Transforming Nursing and Healthcare Through Technology In this Assignment, you will consider the evolving role of the nurse leader and how this evolution has led nurse leaders to assume the role of knowledge worker.

Nursing Informatics

Nursing informatics has significantly changed nursing for the better. Nurses routinely gather and utilize information to care for patients in the health care setting (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2015). Patient care has become a primary focus in developing new concepts and knowledge in healthcare technology. Technological development in clinical applications is the current trend in healthcare, and it will continue to play a significant role for years to come (Bickford, 2005).

Data used, Collected, and Accessed.

Health informatics, which is the intersection of people, technology, and data to improve the safety and quality of patient care, can be found in many forms. As a nurse manager, I usually complete the medical assessment for new residents. This process is sometimes complex as the company I work for still uses paper documentation to gather and store residents’ information. Sometimes, some critical information is missed or lost when needed due to misplacement of documents. The focus of my scenario is the poor insight of the residents’ knowledge concerning their diagnosis and health. We admitted a 48-year-old male. This resident had poor insight into his health, diagnosis, was confused and unable to express himself. Therefore, the information we gathered to support and care for the resident was straightly from the paper documentation we received. Data used were from the psychiatric evaluation, medical, physical examination, medication list, insurance card, and laboratory results. These documents provide and verify the resident personal information, diagnosis and past and current history information.

Clinical Reasoning, Judgment, and Knowledge

A nursing leader, in this regard, will rely on clinical reasoning and judgment by tirelessly collecting and processing information regarding the patient’s condition before implementing any treatment plan. Lori (2022) stated ways to improve clinical judgment in the correctional setting. If you have a leadership role in your setting, you may be able to incorporate these processes into staff meetings, annual education modules, or quality improvement activities. If you have a frontline staff position, you can still benefit from incorporating some of these processes into your professional practices. A nursing leader needs critical thinking to evaluate the best available scientific evidence for the treatment and care of a particular patient. Good clinical judgment is required to select the most relevant research evidence. The decision-making process uses nursing knowledge to observe and assesses presenting situations via identifying a prioritized client concern and generate the best possible evidence-based solutions in order to deliver safe client care.
