State Action Coalitions Initiative to Advance the Nursing Profession All 18 prelicensure nursing programs funded by the state of New Mexico came together to form the New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium (NMNEC) in 2009. An action Coalition initiative model of partnership to develop a statewide common curriculum to aid students offering the BSN on community college campuses to seamlessly transfer for between schools. This is in reaction to The Institute of Medicine's (IOM) goal of nursing education programs which would increase the percentage of nurses with a BSN degree in nursing to 80 percent by 2020. This model has helped to increase prelicensure BSN seats by 77 percent over three years while increasing university partnerships with community colleges (Landen Jenny, 2017) The New Mexico Center for Nursing Excellence (NMCNE) is another body set up to support the states' Action coalition. Kim Mckinley, the board president of NMCNE doubles as co-chair of New Mexico Action Coalition. The NMCNE is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a mission to advance the nursing community through the convening of stakeholders and initiatives that support nurse practice, education, professional development, and the profession
