NR 546 Reflection on Learning

NR 546 Reflection on Learning This course was a challenging but informative one. Not only did I learn about specific psychotropic medications, I also learned about the pathways, neurotransmitters, and metabolism properties associated with those medications. While it was a great deal of information to absorb in just 8 weeks, I certainly feel more prepared in my journey to becoming a PMHNP. The course content and assignments will help me begin to achieve the program outcome 1 which states "provide high-quality, safe, patient-centered care grounding in holistic health principles". I definitely feel this course has helped prepare me for the first half of this outcome. I absolutely feel more confident in my ability to provide safe care, particularly regarding choosing the best medication for my patient based on a variety of factors. Our case study discussions were extremely beneficial in aiding in this learning process. They allowed me to utilize critical thinking and required me to prioritize high-quality, safe care. The patient education component of the case studies helped me focus on patient-centered care and opportunities to involve the patient in their care to promote compliance. I don't feel I learned much from this course in terms of holistic health principles. NR 546 was focused on the science of these medications rather than the provision of healing, loving care. Both are entirely necessary and important, and I hope to learn more about the latter in future courses and in clinical experiences. The course will also help me achieve the following AACN essentials domain: "1.3 demonstrate clinical judgment founded on a broad knowledge base". 1.3d states "integrate foundational and advanced specialty knowledge into clinical reasoning". I feel that NR 546 has equipped me with so much knowledge and has allowed me opportunities to practice using that knowledge to do exactly this. Again, the weekly case studies proved to be very beneficial in better understanding and utilizing the information learned each week
