Part I

The selected organization for use in this assignment is the American Association for Nurse Practitioners (AANP). AANP is an association that was developed with the main aim of advocating for nurse practitioners and their patients. The mission of the organization is to empower all nurse practitioners to engage in activities that advance quality of healthcare through advocacy, education, leadership, practice, and research. The vision of the organization is to promote high-quality health care. Its values include integrity, excellence, professionalism, leadership, and service. The following is a concept map for the relationship of the above aspects in AANP.

The above concept map shows the relationship between AANP mission, vision and values. The map shows that for the vision of AANP to be achieved, a focus should be placed on delivering high-quality healthcare by nurse practitioners. The ability to deliver high-quality healthcare is dependent on values such as integrity, excellence, professionalism and service. Cumulative, the consideration of the above contributes to service excellence in the care given by nurse practitioners.

Part II

The success of health organizations in the modern world depend largely on their focus on the creation of effective culture. Culture in health organizations determines the behaviors of the organizational stakeholders such as the healthcare providers. Nurse leaders and managers play an important role in promoting the creation of the desired culture in their organizations. Nurse leaders and managers explore effective leadership and management interventions that can be used to create and sustain culture of excellence. Therefore, this paper examines the characteristics of a culture of excellence, mission, vision and values of a selected organization, and leadership strategies that promote culture of excellence.

 

Characteristics of Culture of Excellence

Culture of excellence has been defined as the ability of an organization to develop mechanisms and processes that accelerate immediate and sustained performance and change. Culture of excellence drive organizational success and competitiveness by ensuring that the organizational stakeholders including employees are focused, empowered and engaged. Culture of excellence in health organizations has a number of characteristics (Allen-Duck et al., 2017). One of the characteristics is the existence of a compelling organizational mission and vision that is communicate and understood by the stakeholders. The employees in an organization understand and believe in the developed mission and vision. They understand their roles, responsibilities as well as actions that they should embrace to achieve the mission and vision. The second characteristic of culture of excellence is the existence of clear purpose alongside meaning. Organizations with culture of excellence have employees that feel that they play a meaningful role in contributing to organizational success (Lindblad et al., 2017). The employees are motivated and inspired by a common organizational purpose that becomes the driving force for their actions in the organization.
