In the healthcare setting, a board of governance can be defined based on the definition proposed by Chambers (2012). According to Chambers (2012), the board of governance is a group of qualified healthcare providers who collaborate with trustees to ensure that the resources within the healthcare organization are managed effectively. Therefore, board members should have experience running operations within a healthcare facility to offer ideas that can improve the organization’s overall performance.
Organizational leadership in the context of strategic planning can be defined as the process of setting strategic goals and motivating employees to meet the organization’s expectations during strategy implementation. According to Narikae et al. (2017), organizational leadership in strategic planning includes translating guidelines and ideas during the strategy implementation process. Leaders persuade employees to meet the organization’s objectives. Therefore, organizational leadership is characterized by planning, communication, organizing, coordination, culture, commitment, monitoring, decision-making, and evaluation. Communication is vital in properly coordinating individuals in strategy implementation; hence, there is a need to create a good communication channel that allows everyone involved in implementing a strategy to access information about the strategy and required actions. Organizational leadership also includes ensuring that healthcare providers are involved in decision-making to ensure that the organization’s strategic goals are met.
