The growing availability of information resources has led to distance learning being used more often, especially for postgraduate education. It is especially relevant in those areas characterized by regular updating of knowledge, which includes health care. Therefore, the highest quality, at the current level of world knowledge, training, and continuous professional development of medical workers of all levels and areas of activity, including nurses, are needed. Distance learning and vocational training programs allow to acquire practical skills and abilities that correspond to the modern level of professional competencies, based on already mastered educational nursing education programs. However, there is some concern about the effectiveness of this type of nursing training.
Thus, the study aims to measure the level of nursing satisfaction with distance education and training programs in the Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah region in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Alsadaan et al. (2021) investigate the problems of Saudi Arabian nurses, among which is the increase in the recruitment of expatriate nurses, which is associated with a shortage of Saudi nurses. As such, expatriate nurses need a rigorous training program to improve the knowledge and skills to work and stay in Saudi Arabia. In turn, the study by Al-Mutair (2015) highlights the decline in the effectiveness of clinical training for nurses, one of the main reasons for which is the neglect of the use of online programs for postgraduate nursing education. Moreover, a study by Albejaidi and Nair (2019) confirms the effectiveness of developing distance learning and preclinical programs for nurses in transforming the healthcare system. Zaki et al. (2016) investigate the factors influencing patients’ satisfaction from sisters at Makkah Al-Mukaramah hospitals. Thus, the authors highlight the lack of competence among some nurses as a factor of patients’ dissatisfaction, which could be reduced thanks to online continuing education programs.
This research utilizes a scoping review methodology to map the relevant findings and evidence. The method uses six steps that involve identifying a research question, keywords determination, inclusion and exclusion method, database searches to obtain relevant studies, collecting and synthesizing data.
