Impact of increasing level of education on my competitiveness in the current job market
and my role in the future of nursing
Increasing my level of education will positively affect my competencies in the job market
ad my role in the future of nursing. A completing an advanced (masters) degree in nursing will
improve my mastery of key nursing concepts and skills that ensure patients enjoy high-quality
nursing care that meets their unique needs (McNiff, 2018). Attaining my Master will allow me to
become a nurse practitioner in a geriatric long-term care setting and collaborate effectively with
physicians in planning the care needs of patients. I believe an advanced degree will be motivate
me to engage in lifelong learning and undertake related professional advanced programs and
certifications that aim at addressing new clinical and nursing areas occasioned by continuing
reforms in the health care sector (Chism, 2016). The IOM report identified a need for nurses to
enroll for higher-level education to gain a better understanding of patient needs and acquire
leadership competencies. Increasing my education level will enable me to appreciate the
diversity of patients’ needs and enhance my capacity to offer patient-centered care while
avoiding medical errors (PHN, 2020). I will later consider going for Ph.D. or DNP to gain an
expert level of competency. The timeframe for this objective is seven years.
