With my sights set on a future as a nurse educator in the clinical setting for future nursing students, this provides an array of opportunities to work with populations that are vulnerable to issues of health disparities/inequity. While slightly different than what a bed-side nurse may face, acknowledging these disparities and the opportunity to make a difference with more vulnerable populations is an important aspect of nursing across the board. Nurse educators are responsible for leading the next generation of nurses towards being inclusive, culturally competent, and supportive caregivers for the community. According to Kellett and Fitton (2017) an area that is sorely lacking in the nursing curriculum is that of the supportive nursing care of transgender clients.
