Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN’s) undertake various specialized roles, including assessment of patients, diagnosis, treatment of diverse disorders and prescribing drugs, including legend drugs. In addition APRNs order diagnostic tests and offer guidance on management of various medical conditions. However, various state and national regulations have considerable influence on APRN’s ability to undertake the stipulated roles. Some of the regulations affecting the role of APRN in Washington State are Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Uniform Controlled Substance Act (UCS).
