Discuss how nurse managers and nurse leaders contribute to the reengineering of health care

Introduction

Nurse Manager and nurse leader contribute immensely to reengineering of health by
advocating for both patients’ and nurses’ needs. The nurse managers are tasked with executive
roles that include staffing, quality and safety, and budgeting and help in reengineering of health
care by allocating adequate resources towards quality improvement initiatives that lead to better
patient outcomes (Huber, 2013). The nurse manager and nurse leader play leadership roles in
reengineering health care by advocating for patient safety and safe working environment that
leads to better patient outcomes (Marriner-Tomey, 2004).
The nurse manager and nurse leader assist in reengineering healthcare by representing
and supporting their staff. The manger and nurse leader is expected to listen and list concerns by
nurses and represent the nursing unit in a meeting with health care management officials
(Marriner-Tomey, 2004). In this case, the manager and nurse leader is advocate for nurse welfare
like better training and development opportunities that enable the nursing staff to complete their
tasks with efficiency. In addition, nurse leaders act as coaches and mentors of their staff in
technical nursing areas thus facilitating skills acquisition which is needed in reengineering of
health care (Huber, 2013).
A nurse manager and nurse leader takes an active role in establishment of nursing
standards and code of behavior that guides the work of nursing staff (Marriner-Tomey, 2004). In
this case, the leader will align the nursing unit interests and staff resources with wider
organizational goals thus facilitating reengineering of healthcare services (Huber, 2013). It is the
role of nurse manager to establish good relations with patients, families, local community, and
government in reengineering the delivery of nursing care (Marriner-Tomey, 2004).
