Case Study Assignment: Assessment Tools and Diagnostic Tests in Adults and Children

Weight-related challenges are prevalent in the United States of America and have critically affected the well-being of children and adults (Reilly et al., 2018). Obesity and underweight have significantly affected the health status of individuals globally, which necessitates the use of diagnostic tools that are reliable, accurate, and sensitive to enhance the efficacy of the tests. The case scenario involves a 12-year-old Hispanic girl who is severely underweight and has underweight parents. Moreover, the girl has been bullied in school. The case scenario reveals multiple challenges that individuals with weight challenges encounter in their social lives. Therefore, this paper explores the scenario to assess various issues related to the girl, other relevant information required for effective assessment, and the strategies for parents and caregivers to improve the child's health. Health Issues and Risks Relevant to the Child The child in the case scenario has multiple health issues and risks. Notably, the child is severely underweight and has underweight parents. The health status of the parents poses multiple health-related issues and risks that are likely the major contributory factors to the child's health condition. In addition, the parent's health condition is likely to have posed multiple challenges to their efforts to ensure the provision of adequate care. A lack of a balanced diet and exclusive breastfeeding are the most likely risk factors that the girl encountered due to her parent's health condition (Hudak & Racine, 2019). Hence, the girl is suffering from malnutrition and is lacking sufficient nutrients in her body. She is also at risk of delayed growth and development, retarded brain development, and susceptibility to various diseases and infections. It is worth noting that obesity is prevalent among Hispanics; hence, the girl's health condition may be related to poverty and lack of adequate nutrients (Reilly et al., 2018). It might also be genetic because of her parent's condition
