Approximately, 4.8% of U.S. adults, or 11.2 to 12.4 million people, had pain in the area

of their temporomandibular joint (TMJ) that may have been caused by temporomandibular joint

dysfunction (National Academies of Sciences et al., 2020). The pain that arose in the

temporomandibular area is particularly due to a joint disorder. Approximately 50 to100 million

individuals in the United States suffer from chronic temporomandibular joint pain (National

Academies of Sciences et al., 2020)
