Answer for NRS 465 Name two information/communication technologies that could improve the implementation process and the outcomes of your capstone project

Topic 5 DQ 2

Technology is a core aspect of implementing successful projects in healthcare as it supports the interventions through enhancing knowledge and leveraging other benefits it provides. The two technologies that will improve the implementation process and outcomes of the capstone project include artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual sitters. Used together with in-room sensors, AI detects signs of a patient attempting to stand and alerts nurses before the patient exits their bed or chair. As such, the alert ensures that the patient does not fall as the nurse arrives on time (Harris et al., 2022). Artificial intelligence possesses human-like processing and interpretation that is combined with machine-based precision to ensure repetitive monitoring of patients susceptible to falling. The advantages of AI-based support interventions include their high consistent rate, accuracy, and precision, implying that nurses know each alert is a high-priority event (Dilip et al, 2022).  However, a possible barrier that could prevent the application of this technology is the cost of its installation and execution as it requires nurses to get sufficient training and the organization to allocate appropriate resources to procure it.

Virtual sitters are changing fall management for patients as they help nurses know possible falls by patients. The virtual sitter combines human sitters and video monitoring to enable nurses to see patient movement as they watch live streams of patient rooms; often several at a time. When a patient gets up, the virtual sitter alerts the nurse to assist (Quigley et al., 2021). In some instances, it prompts the nurse to communicate with the patient. As such, the technology will help nurses know when falls are occurring and change their hourly rounding protocols to accommodate such events. However, the core barrier to the implementation of this technology is the initial cost required for the organization to install it.
