Hebrews and the Foundation of Western Law
Upon reading the essay on “Hebrews and the Foundation of Western Law,” the two fundamental principles, equality and the freedom of religion and speech are embedded in our constitution. Today, equality is recognized as an essential principle of law (Constitutional Rights Foundation, n.d.). Equality is a foundational principle in the American political system, and the Supreme Court has played a vital role in advancing the principle of equality of opportunity in the country. The Supreme Court has utilized many constitutional amendments to help guarantee that people’s right to equality is protected.
On the other hand, the freedom of religion and speech, as seen in our constitution, prohibits the enactment of any legislation relating to the creation of a state or federal religion, restricting the free practice of religion and limiting freedom of expression, impinging on the press’s rights, interfering with the freedom to assemble in a peaceful manner, or prohibiting the filing of petitions seeking governmental redress of grievances (Konvitz, 2018).
