Deer Park is located in Southeast Texas within the Houston-Sugar Land- Baytown metropolitan area and is part of Harris County. The City of Deer Park is known as the birthplace of Texas because it is near the site of the Battle of San Jacinto, where Texas won its independence from Mexico. A replica of Dr. Patrick’s cabin located in front of the Courts/Theatre building on Center Street. The significance of the cabin is where Dr. George Moffitt signed the treaty after the battle. To become familiar with a community, anyone can search the internet and get results, but walking or driving in a community can give someone, like a nurse, a sense of what the community has to offer or what the community lacks. This type of observation is known as a windshield survey (Washington Community College [WCC], 2018).
