Response: In my professional life I hope to become a school counselor. This means working with students as well as parents to ensure that children are thriving in school and feel safe and comfortable in their learning environment so that they can take away as much as possible from learning. Within this internship I have been able to sit in on a parent meeting with a student who was having trouble following directions. We tried to come up with a plan for him that would help him be successful at the program. I have also been able to call parents and follow up with them for program related things. All of this is helping me become more experienced inworking with children and parents to ensure that they are successful at the St. Mark program. I am also getting to work a lot with conscious discipline in the different classrooms. I am getting more experience teaching different age groups this way of learning and can see what works for the younger kids and what works for the older kids. By teaching it to so many kids I am also getting to experience diverse ways that work for some ways and ways that do not work for others. This is helping me get experience working with a wide variety of kids with a variety of needs and several ways of learning. In my personal life I want to become more social and more comfortable around people I do not know. Participating in this internship has allowed me to do so. I have been able to meet and interact with new co-workers, parents, and even students. The summer program is split up into diverse groups by grade level. I have gotten to assist in a few of these different classes already, so I am getting to meet new kids and learn from them as well as the people at St. Mark. This experience is helping me come out of my shell even more and I feel confident when I go there because I am excited for what the day has to offer
