This paper discussed about the dentistry profession, its evolution along with the code of conduct. Dentistry is recognized as profession of public service and health. This profession should be ruled to make goodwill among public and maintain high standards which involve the concept of autonomy in the practices in the profession. Autonomy is defined as “respect for person” which makes members of the profession to be trustworthy and competent while treating the patient and not to use people as a mean. Dentist’s behavior should be good and fair, so that people feel safe to visit them like not charging too much from patients and also not to prescribe unnecessary things. One need to monitor him and undergo regular supervision to daily activity but that is difficult hence several organizations are founded to supervise the profession and maintain the high standard. In medicine the various organizations regulate, monitoring and maintain the standards in the profession.
