The middle range concept is the expansion of the global concept of nursing. It includes systemic, interactive, evolutional, and behavioral paradigms.
Systematic paradigm: Individual function as a system. The individual is closely associated with their environment. Any changes in the environment affect the system. Theories that are related to the systematic paradigm are Neuman’s healthcare system model, Johnson’s behavioral system model, and Roy’s compatibility model.
Interactive paradigm: According to this humans are associated with society. This paradigm says the relationship between human and their role play in society. This paradigm is supported by King’s access to goal theory and Orlando’s nurse-patient dynamic relationship model.
Evolutional paradigm: It is also called a developmental paradigm. This paradigm based on growth, development, maturity, and changes in human beings. According to this paradigm, humans go through various stages of development. Nurses’ role is to facilitate effective development and eliminate difficulty coming on the way of maturation.
Behavioral Paradigm: This paradigm is based on human needs. According to the behavioral paradigm, when all the needs are met normally individual survives. Supportive theories are Henderson’s nursing essence model, Orem’s self-care and failure in self-care theory, and Wiedenbach’s clinical nursing model
Empirical concept of nursing:
This accurately measures the concept of nursing. Empirical nursing concepts are as follows:
Provides care to the patient/patients of all age groups.
Focuses on nursing care, development and modification of health promotion, and interaction between the individual and environment.
Commitment to meet the needs of the patient, holistic care for the patient, professional commitment, providing justice to rights of the patient, adoption of good manner and professionalism.
Providing services by people with good morals, leadership/management/planning of change, problem-solving/decision-making, and professional behavior features.
5 Objectives of nursing
Objective of nursing are:
Meeting needs of the patient: It means providing appropriate care to the patient which is needed. It also focuses on understanding the patient.
Patient care: Involving in planning and implementing the activities. Providing patient-centered care and minimized sufferings.
Maintaining safety: Keep eye on the patient and protecting from secondary injury, defend and protect the patient.
Follow-up care of the patient: It means implementing the treatment regimen and help the patient to recover and improve health.
Educating the patient: It involves educating the patient about his condition, measures to follow for better recovery, develop self-care activities, and increasing the confidence of the patient.
