In light of what you have learnt this semester, provide a reflection on:  why learning about social difference and how it is manifest spatially is important

Learning about social differences and how they are manifested spatially has been very important in this course. First, the learning has been fundamental in developing knowledge of on concepts explained on the different social difference existing in the society. The social differences have created different marginalized groups in the society. For instance, social differences have elicited exploitation, marginalization and powerlessness among others. Eliciting and evidencing these differences is important because the community is able to identify their patterns and in future, the social differences are addressed through different forums. For instance, the social differences among ‘straight people and gay people’ have elicited many different social differences. Nevertheless, the study of these social differences have drawn to the learner that the gay generation has gained popularity and is fundamentally contributing to the community, economically, socially, politically and even culturally. Apart from such lessons, social differences have enabled the learning of dynamism in culture and awareness in social behaviours and norms.  how you will apply your learning in your everyday life and in your future careers The knowledge gained shall be applied in different ways. For instance, gender violence awareness is one field that the knowledge shall be applied. The society still marginalizes the female gender as a weak gender. It is high time for the world to learn that the bias against women is long overdue. Male counterparts and female counterparts have equal counterparts. Understanding the impacted knowledge assists in learning that the world is not static. Consequently, the information continually evolves to meet the challenges of the changes emergent from the gender differences.  Use specific examples to justify your points. (5 marks) For instance, if Australia is to prevent another Cronulla, racism needs to be tackled at the local, regional and national levels and the Commonwealth's government's deliberate and negative portrayal of asylum seekers and Muslims as the 'other' needs to be replaced with policies that are more accommodating and inclusive. Current academic thinking on addressing disadvantage is becoming critical of spatially targeted approaches to supporting disadvantaged populations because individuals and households who do not reside in those targeted areas are likely to miss out on support, and because they fail to tackle the fundamental causes of poverty that persist among disadvantaged groups regardless of where they live The nature of Australia’s economic geography continues to change, often quite dramatically through the selective nature of economic development and how it engages or disengages both people and places. Improving transport and communications linkages to the metro cities and between the well performing large regional centres would enhance the efficiency of rural and regional Australia.
