As we continue to embark on this digital-era journey, professional nursing organization are prioritizing the use of technology in order to improve networking capabilities for nurses. (Altmiller & Pepe, 2022) Continuing, in the facility I previously worked at, we would use an application called “TigerConnect” in order to communicate with providers. Of course, you didn’t necessarily need to download the application on your phone, because the phones that were provided to us while on shift already had this installed onto the phone. This proved to be incredibly useful, because when a provider gave orders for treatment, you could pull up the message that was sent to you in case you may have forgotten what the order was. Moving on, another use of technology used to enhance the nursing profession as well as nursing education, is the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to a journal article published by the National Library of Medicine, “The use of AI in higher education has garnered global attention, with several countries investing in AI research and education.” (De Gagne, 2023) Adding, “AI technology holds significant potential to create more sophisticated and complex simulations that can help nursing students develop critical thinking skills and prepare for real-world patient care situations.” (De Gagne, 2023) Moreover, the use of AI enables students the opportunity to simulate real-world challenges that they may face as they begin their journey into the nursing profession. (De Gagne, 2023) In addition to this, students are now employing the use of tablets and e-books to access information at a more rapid pace. (Altmiller & Pepe, 2022) To conclude, nurses can utilize social media platforms to advocate for themselves, as well as patients. For example, I create social media content as a means to illustrate the challenges we (as nurses) face on a day-to-day basis. The purpose is to not only entertain, but to also make a point that these re creations aren’t “fake”, but rather, actual occurrences that do take place.
