With communication technology, we can enhance clinical information flows within healthcare settings all the while fostering data exchange, sharing of patient data, and treatment plans. Three contemporary communication technologies used in acute care facilities include Electronic Health Records (EHRs), patient portals, and Telehealth platforms. EHRs digitize patient medical information ensuring easy accessibility and fostering accuracy in treatment. “Making the health information available, reducing duplication of tests, reducing delays in treatment, and patients well informed to take better decisions” (Electronic Health Records | CMS, n.d., para. 1). Patient portals provide direct access to health information, allowing patients to schedule appointments, view test results, and communicate with healthcare providers. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are intertwining themselves into every aspect of our lives and medicine is not an exception. With this advancement in technology we can enhance these platforms by automating processes, optimizing resource allocation, and providing valuable insights. ML structures and indexes unstructured healthcare data, making it analyzable. It builds on previously learned information and can apply it. We use machine learning and AI to help us design new and efficient antibiotics. AI identifies patterns and generates insights, leading to more accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment plans. The integration of communication technology with AI and ML is revolutionizing healthcare by improving information exchange, and collaboration engagement in acute care settings where quick and accurate diagnoses save lives.
