Policies are establishes for a reason. In terms of health care, the goal in implementing policies and procedures is to, “Help prevent disease and promote health and wellness.” (health.gov, 2024) To give you an example, smoking cigarrettes, “Is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths in the United States. Additionally, more than 16 million Americans suffer from at least one disease caused by smoking.” (health.gov, 2012) Continuing, as nurses, it can be argued that we all share an inherent responsibility in educating our patients on the risks associated with smoking cigarrettes. In conjunction with that, how we go about sharing information with patients and stakeholders alike matters. (tractivity.co.uk, 2024) Adding, the emergence of the digital era has enabled stakeholders to access information in a more steamlined fashion. Search engines, for example, “Are among the most important resources for information. And, with searches on mobile increasing quicker than those on desktop computers, it’s clear more and more people are using search engines to get the information they need as soon as they want it.” (tractivity.co.uk, 2024) In summary, policies structured around the prevention of cigarrette smoking can easily be accessed by means of search engines empowers stakeholders. Allowing them the opportunity to stay informed, and to also improve their overall health and wellness.
